Using natural materials
to tie up a pattern that is most often today executed with synthetics is
always a challenge to me. I spent a few summers testing this pattern and
distilled it down to some very basic materials. The use of quills, peacock
herl, and black saddle hackle can get you a very effective Japanese Beetle
pattern in a few minutes. This particular pattern I use in very slow, clear,
and shallow water. Rises to this pattern are very fast and somewhat violent.
