Beyond the esoterics of the cane legacy remain some very utilitarian reasons for choosing to fish with a bamboo rod. Bamboo fly rods, like most instruments, have intricate nuances. These nuances change from rod to rod depending on the materials and construction. Bamboo fly rods have their own persona. These cane rods have a distinctive, simple, and clean look and are rods to grow with and reflect with, and will offer a lifetime of fishing from one season to the next. I make bamboo fly rods, not solely to sell, but to create much for the same reasons people like to write in a journal, paint, or even compose. When I was younger I liked to remember “the hunt” for a fish, so when I returned home I would tie an exact fly that I caught the fish on. Now I like to pay homage in an even more indelible way, by making a rod intended for a particular river, and for a particular fish. Each of these rods has a particular story behind it. Each one of them is made with an experience in mind. Here are some excerpts from my story.
